FRIEDRICH HÖLDERLIN (1770-1843) is considered one of the great German poets, yet his works and reputation are not widely known outside Germany. These pages present some of his best regarded poems, including several chosen from the Late Hymns and from the long years of his insanity.

The poems are listed here by their English and German titles with corresponding links. They can also be read sequentially by simply following the appropriate links after each one.

The German texts on this site are taken from the authoritative Stuttgart edition by Friedrich Beissner available online at the Württembergische Landesbibliothek Stuttgart. The collections at Bibliotheca Augustana and textlog.de may be consulted perhaps more easily.
